AMSTERDAM – The Dutch Agreement on Sustainable Garments and Textiles (AGT) has told Apparel Insider it could be months, “or longer,” before a decision is made on whether its member, C&A, has breached its guidelines. Last month, labour rights groups filed a complaint to the Dutch Agreement, claiming C&A has turned a blind eye to ongoing labour violations at a supplier in Myanmar. SOMO, the Clean Clothes Campaign Netherlands (SKC) and Action Labor Rights (ALR) from Myanmar cite C&A’s “substandard efforts” to tackle the issue of union busting at the supplier.
When we contacted it to ask what will happen now, the Dutch Agreement told us the complaint will go to its disputes committee, which has established its own procedure and operates independently from the AGT and its secretariat.
