WASHINGTON – US retail giant, Nike, must stop making Shox and Air Max shoes using Uyghur forced labour and remove them from sale if they were made at the Qingdao Taekwang facility. A leading US civil rights group has called on Nike to cut ties with the Chinese supplier, which was heavily referenced in this week’s bombshell report by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), Uyghurs For Sale. The report outlines clear and well documented links between forced and coerced labour within China’s Uyghur community and western apparel supply chains.

In addition, the US government is being urged to impose civil penalties and pursue criminal prosecutions for retailers which may have imported apparel products which have been found to be produced using forced labour – a direct contravention of US law.
