GREENSBORO – Cone Denim, the US manufacturer, has completed its first verification of origin audit with supply chain traceability business, Oritain – in doing so, becoming the first denim mill in the world to offer scientifically traceable denim fabric.
The audit enabled Cone to show that all samples tested across its operations in China and Mexico were compliant and none were identified as coming from a restricted risk origin named in the mill’s cotton sourcing policy. These restricted sources include the Xinjiang region of north-western China, Syria, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
The announcement is significant at a time when growing numbers of brands and their manufacturing partners are looking at tech solutions to offer better proof of supply chain traceability. These include use of molecular tagging in conjunction with blockchain solutions.
