LONDON – The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has called on the Government to be more proactive on preventing greenwashing. The watchdog has written an open letter to Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng in response to a request for information following the publication of the CMA’s Green Claims Code in May 2021.

The CMA last week it will name and shame the companies it considers to be the worst greenwashing offenders, as an example to the rest of the industry, and ask them to make changes. If they do not make changes to their advertising, they could be taken to court.
