DHAKA – Bangladesh’s main textile trade body, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has hit back at a report in the Guardian, claiming it presents a distorted view of the experiences of women in the country’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector. The Guardian published a report titled ‘The rise and rise of Bangladesh – but is life getting any better?‘ on October 9 about the RMG sector, claiming the country had undergone an economic miracle in recent years, but at “huge cost to its garment workers.”

The BGMEA claims factory owners were not contacted for the article, while trade unions were.
