DHAKA – Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has warned unions and other interested parties that any extension of the Bangladesh Accord will “not be recognised.” The trade body has come out fighting amid lobbying by Clean Clothes and other NGOs for an extension to the current ‘Transition’ Accord, which expires on 31 May.
Global bodies have called for a new Bangladesh Accord to be established, again involving brands, unions and factory owners. They also want the model to be extended to other garment sourcing hubs.
