DHAKA – The Supreme Court in Bangladesh has upheld a High Court order which banned the inspection and training activities of Nirapon, an alliance of North American readymade garments (RMG) buyers in Bangladesh. The court dismissed a petition filed by Nirapon challenging the order.

The six-month ban on Nirapon was imposed in October following a petition by Dragon Sweater Bangladesh Limited. Dragon Sweater exports to over 30 countries including USA, Canada, European Union, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Japan. Interestingly, the group’s chairman is Mostafa Golam Quddus, a former president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), an organisation which has opposed external influence in Bangladesh from western safety organisations.
