LONDON – Global apparel brands sourcing Better Cotton have responded to issues highlighted by Apparel Insider regarding BCI’s use of a Chinese implementing partner which has well documented links with forced and prison labour. BCI cut ties with XPCC Cotton & Linen Company on October 16. A recent independent report on Xinjiang suggested XPCC Cotton & Linen Company, “is very likely [to] handle cotton produced by XPCC prison enterprises.” XPCC is a pquasi-military organisation’ with deeply ingrained links to forced and prison labour.
