AMSTERDAM – Witness signatories to the Bangladesh Accord have expressed serious concerns about its replacement, the Ready-Made-Garment Sustainability Council (RSC) – and say they will advise brands to look for an alternative body to ensure factory safety if these are not resolved by late November.
It is 150 days since the local operations of the Bangladesh Accord were taken over by the RSC. However, the four witness signatories to the Accord agreement — Clean Clothes Campaign, International Labor Rights Forum/Global Labor Justice, Maquila Solidarity Network, and Worker Rights Consortium – say they are concerned that a “rushed transition and the employer influence over the RSC’s programme will threaten progress toward factory safety in Bangladesh.”
