Grasim lines up US$325m lyocell expansion in India

MUMBAI – Indian cellulosic fibre giant Grasim Industries has approved an investment of around US$325m to expand lyocell production. The expansion will take place at its Harihar site in Karnataka, in a move that will significantly increase the Indian group’s capacity in specialty man-made cellulosic fibres.

The company, part of the Aditya Birla Group and owner of Birla Cellulose, said the investment will fund Phase II of its lyocell expansion programme. The project will add 110,000 tonnes per annum of capacity through two lines of 55,000 tonnes each.
